Weekly Lesson Allocations

  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7) – 2x 50 minute lessons per week
  • Key Stage 3 (Years 8/9) – 1x 50 minute lessons per week
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10/11) – 3x 50 minute lessons per week

Art Curriculum Statement

The Art and Design curriculum is a plan for progression and learning to include the following-

  • The development of skills, knowledge and understanding gained through media, processes and techniques.
  • Widening knowledge of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural dimensions of the subject
  • Becoming more creative; to increase visual communication , analytical and lateral thinking skills
  • To heighten engagement and awareness of the relevance to art to pupils’ own lives and as a window to the world.

Key Stage 3:

Key Stage three is assessed using threshold statements. A child will be given a working at threshold at each data capture:

Pupils are set homework which links to the projects that they have been undertaking in lessons.

Art and Design syllabus content:

This is a broad course exploring a range of 2D and 3D processes and new media technologies.

Pupils must work in a range of different media using art, craft and design materials.

Students should produce work from two or more of the endorsements below:

  • Fine Art
  • Graphic Communication
  • Textile Design
  • Three-Dimensional Design
  • Photography

The course is very structured in Year 10, with pupils developing more independence into Year 11.
